Job summary

The City of Virginia Beach Public Works Department is seeking a Maintenance Supervisor to manage field crews supporting a year-round event-driven schedule with temporary traffic control and staffing, and to oversee planned and emergency work zones.

Responsibilities include supervision of highway traffic signs and marks, personnel training, OSHA-aligned safety programs, and coordination with the Traffic Operations Bureau. CDL Class A or B is required, with a pre-employment physical.

Qualifications

• Experience planning special event activities, traffic control, and work zone area protection implementation.
• Experience estimating costs for materials and equipment for work crews.
• Ability to ensure scheduled work is completed promptly.

Responsibilities

• Supervise field personnel in traffic control and event-related staffing.
• Oversee installation, maintenance, and repair of highway traffic signs.
• Oversee fabrication of highway traffic signs.
• Provide direction and supervision to crews as required for efficient work.
• In absence of the Assistant Superintendent, supervise employees in the Traffic Operations Bureau.
• Assist in training and safety programs to meet OSHA guidelines.
