Job summary

Odessa College’s Children’s Center is seeking a Work-Study Student Helper to assist staff in creating a safe, welcoming environment for children. You will support daily classroom activities and supervise activities with a friendly, professional attitude.

This role offers hands-on early childhood experience while working with children and staff in a maintenance-conscious classroom. Training and confidentiality are emphasized, and duties may include various duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Actively enrolled Odessa College student.
• Eligible for Federal Work-Study.
• Able to work well with children and staff.

Responsibilities

• Assist with daily activities and classroom routines.
• Maintain a safe, clean, organized classroom and play area.
• Assist with preparing and cleaning up classroom materials.
• Interact with children in a positive, age-appropriate manner.
• Supervise children during activities and meals.
• Support teachers with materials and activities.
• Follow center policies and safety guidelines.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding children, families, and center operations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

The Work-Study Student Helper provides support to the Odessa College Children’s Center staff in creating a safe, welcoming, and nurturing environment for children. This position assists with daily classroom and center activities while gaining valuable experience working with children and supporting early childhood development.

Specific Position Duties

• Assist Children’s Center staff with daily activities and classroom routines.
• Help maintain a safe, clean, and organized classroom and play environment.
• Assist with setting up and cleaning up classroom materials, activities, and play areas.
• Interact with children in a positive, respectful, and age-appropriate manner.
• Assist with supervising children during classroom activities, meals, outdoor play, and other scheduled activities.
• Support teachers and staff with preparing materials and activities.
• Follow all Children’s Center policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding children, families, and center operations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Must be an actively enrolled Odessa College student and eligible for Federal Work-Study.
• Must be dependable, responsible, and able to work well with children and staff.
• Ability to communicate effectively and maintain a professional and positive attitude.
• Previous experience working with children is preferred but not required.
