Description

Utility Forester/Contract Arborist/Work Planner

This position provides planning, scheduling, reporting, and project management for utility right-of-way vegetation management programs throughout our operating region.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities
  • Inspect right-of-ways to assess vegetation conditions and determine required maintenance activities.
  • Assist with developing bid package maps and work manifests.
  • Obtain permission from property owners to trim or remove trees and apply herbicides, arrange access, and communicate work details.
  • Discuss property damage responsibility, minor repairs, and refer controversial cases.
  • Research easement and land rights.
  • Meet with landowners to explain vegetation management work.
  • Mark works in the field as needed.
  • Respond to public concerns and questions.
  • Assist in developing public relations materials.
  • Respond to contractor questions about work specifications.
  • Document work activity using GIS and work planning software.
  • Inspect contractor work for compliance.
  • Assist in storm restoration operations.
  • Support and assist on special projects.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be 18 or older.
  • Knowledge of vegetation management techniques and equipment.
  • Excellent computing skills; GIS knowledge preferred.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Forestry, Natural Resources, Horticulture, or related field preferred; Associate's Degree required.
  • ISA Certified Arborist or ability to obtain within 1 year; ISA Utility Specialist preferred.
  • 2+ years of relevant experience preferred.
Pre-Screen
  • Pre-employment drug screen, background, and MVR check may be required.
License & Certifications
  • Valid Driver's License required.
Physical Requirements
  • Rarely (less than 10%): stooping, kneeling, crawling, climbing poles, lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Occasionally (up to 33%): sitting, reaching, carrying, balancing.
  • Frequently (up to 66%): standing, walking, seeing, hearing.
  • Continuously (up to 100%): seeing, speaking clearly.
