Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, assign and ensure work order requests are completed timely.
  • Answer phone calls, emails and voice messages regarding maintenance requests and needs.
  • Communicate requests to FM personnel via two-way radio, phone calls or work orders.
  • Input and coordinate work orders in MC and through departments.
  • Perform Fleet Services duties including vehicle requests and training.
  • Issue and track keys for Facilities Management staff and visiting contractors.

The Work Controller performs a variety of duties in the operation of the Facilities Management (FM) work control system, Maintenance Connection (MC) and Fleet Services. This position handles critical and sensitive issues in an expedited manner via phones, emails and voice messages from campus community and retrieves work order submittals from the Maintenance Connection (MC) system. The selected candidate will provide customer service to all the campus community and responds to general inquires regarding any University matters. For Fleet Services, processes rental vehicle requests, driver clearance documentation, van training and other Fleet responsibilities. Other duties as assigned include, but are not limited to: key distribution, administration of campus parking permits and handling campus fleet needs and services.


Responsibilities and Duties

Utilizes Maintenance Connection (MC) to process the various types of work orders. Reviews work orders for validity, accuracy and justifications. Provide field support and training to staff in the Academic, Auxilliary and trades Services maintenance areas on the Maintenance Connection (MC) work order system. Works with various levels of Facilities Management administration to coordinate, assign and ensure work order requests are being completed in a timely manner.


Answer phone calls, emails and voice messages regarding maintenance requests and needs. Communicate requests to the proper FM personnel, via two-way radio, phone calls or work orders. Review the workcontrol@towson.edu mailbox routinely throughout the day. Input work orders into the MC system. Coordinates work requested by other departments through work control phases by processing various types of work orders.


Perform Fleet Services duties, including processing and reviewing requests for campus and Enterprise vehicle needs. Driver clearance requests and provide van training for students and staff. And other additional Fleet Services designations.


Issues and tracks keys for Facilities Management staff and visiting contractors on a daily basis to access job sites.


Assists visitors and contractors, including issuing parking permits and campus directions. Utilizes two-way radio to communicate to the proper FM personnel. And other duties as assigned.


Qualifications and Skills

High school diploma or GED.


Four years in scheduling and determining resource requirements in trades occupations.


Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.


Ability to remain calm while collecting information from callers. Detail oriented, good listening skills and good communication skills. Must be able to handle critical and sensitive issues and make a judgement call as to the priority or seriousness of the situation. Strong customer service skills required. Ability to do multiple tasks and remain organized.


Schedule must be flexible to meet departmental needs.


This position is an essential position.


Candidates selected for employment may be subject to medical inquiries and/or medical examinations to determine ability to perform the job. Valid Maryland Non-commercial Class C or equivalent driver's license is required. Candidates selected for employment will be required to take additional training not limited to Ladder Training, confined spaces, heat stress and asbestos training.


Salary and Benefits

$45,375 annually and full University benefits that includes annual leave, up to 17 holidays, personal and sick days; excellent health, life, and retirement plans; and tuition remission.


Applicants with TU or USM service may receive salary credit. When applicable, a 2.5% increase may be added to the annual salary, pending successful completion of the initial six-month probationary period, for this position.
