Job summary

VSR Industries seeks a skilled wood shop carpenter to design, build, remodel, retrofit and maintain structures from blueprints and specifications in its Kentucky facility. You will determine materials, prepare layout, cut, assemble and install components, and inspect finished work to ensure compliance with drawings.

Requires a high school diploma or GED and 2+ years remodeling wood structures or furniture experience; basic math, tape measure use, good eye-hand coordination, and ability to read

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Minimum 2 years of remodeling wood structures, furniture repair or construction.
• Basic math skills and ability to use a tape measure accurately.
• Experience with basic hand tools is preferred.
• Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
• Familiar with dowel, butt joint, and dado/dao construction.
• Good eye-hand coordination and ability to understand basic English directions.
• Pre-employment drug screen and background check required.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, remodel, retrofit, and maintain or repair structures from drawings and instructions.

• Cut materials to measurements using chop saws, table saws, and routers.
• Assemble materials and fasten with brackets, screws, nails.
• Finish by installing hardware such as locks and kick plates.
• Inspect completed work for conformance with specifications.
• Participate in maintenance and operation of the wood shop.
• Maintain and repair hand or power tools and equipment.

Job description

GENERAL DUTIES

• Work from blueprints, specifications, drawing and instructions to design, build, remodel, retrofit, and maintain and/or repair structure.
• Determine materials and equipment required for work orders based on blueprints and sketches.
• Prepares layout.
• Marks cutting and assembly lines on materials.
• Cuts materials to measurements using chop saws, table saws, and trim routers.
• Assembles cut materials and fasten together with brackets, screws, and/or nails.
• Marks, cuts, and shapes materials to prescribed measurements; assemble by fastening with nails, staples, dowels, or glue.
• Fits, installs, and maintains finished hardware such as locks and kick plates.
• Inspects completed work for conformance with specifications.
• Participate in the maintenance and operation of the wood shop.
• Maintains and repairs hand or power tools and equipment of the carpentry trade by cleaning, oiling, setting, or other processes.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma or GED.
• Minimum of 2 years' experience of experience in remodeling of wood structures; furniture repair or construction; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Must have basic math skills, and accurately use a tape measure.
• Experience using basic hand tools (preferred.)
• Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
• Familiar with the following methods: dowel construction, butt joint construction, and dao construction.
• Must have good eye-hand coordination.
• Be able to understand basic directions in English (required)
• Pre-employment drug screen and background check are required

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Must be able to stand, walk and lift for up to 8 hours daily.
• Vision abilities requires close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth
• Required to lift, push, pull, and/or carry up to 50 lbs. continually.
• May be required to stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• Moderately loud noise levels in plant environment.
