Job summary

Syracuse University is seeking a Part-Time Instructor to teach MUE 327/627 and MUE 328/628: Woodwind Instruments I & II for Fall 2026 and Spring 2027. Labor lab use and on-campus instruction emphasized, with emphasis on performance techniques and instrument care.

Responsibilities include syllabus development, delivering lectures, maintaining office hours, grading, and ensuring timely progress reports. On-campus presence required; remote work is limited.

Qualifications

• Comprehensive understanding of music teaching and learning in public schools, particularly elementary and secondary.
• Experience with music instruction/woodwind pedagogy in instrumental settings and inclusion of students with disabilities and English Language Learners.
• Commitment to equity for all students and building connections with local public-school teachers.
• A doctorate degree in music education is desirable; ABD candidates will also be considered.
• Master’s degree in music education with Music K-12 teaching certification required.
• Understanding of various woodwind teaching methodologies and scheduling in public schools.
• Experience in leading engaging classrooms and assessment; prior college teaching preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop and update a class syllabus.
• Prepare lectures, projects, or other student assignments.
• Maintain regularly scheduled office hours.
• Present instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course.
• Meet all designated class periods.
• Submit completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.
• Grade student assignments and exams in timely manner.
• Provide departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.
• Build a positive rapport with students and other faculty.

Education

Master's degree in music education with K-12 certification

Doctorate in music education (desirable)
