Job summary

Syracuse University’s Setnor School of Music seeks a Part-Time Instructor to teach MUE 310/610 Field Experience in Music Education in Spring 2027. This one-credit course focuses on orientation to school settings, observations and supervised teaching in music at elementary and secondary levels, coordinated with teacher preparation programs.

The position requires on-campus presence at Crouse College, with regular office hours and adherence to university policies.

Qualifications

Comprehensive understanding of music teaching in public schools.
Must be able to mentor prospective music educators.
Excellent connections with local public-school teachers.
Experience supporting diverse learners including ELLs.

Responsibilities

Develop or update a class syllabus.
Prepare lectures, projects or other student assignments.
Maintain regularly scheduled office hours.
Present instruction based on course competencies.
Meet all designated class periods and arrange substitutes if needed; inform department chair.
Submit mid-semester progress reports and final grades.
Grade student assignments and exams in a timely manner.
Provide departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.
Build a positive rapport with students and other faculty.
