Job Overview:
The Behavioral Health Technician is a vital member of the Dunwoody Recovery Place (DRP) System of Care. The technician, under supervision of the Director of Housing and Transportation, is responsible for the complete care and wellbeing of clients, recording patient behavior, and providing a safe, supportive environment. Candidates should be able to problem solve, make appropriate decisions during crises, and be interested in growing in the mental health field.
Knowledge and Training:
- Ability to interact professionally with staff and clients.
- Handle stressful and demanding situations effectively.
- Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.
- Knowledge in problem solving, stress management, ethics, and team building.
- Understanding of alcohol and drug effects on individuals.
- Ability to identify medical emergencies and respond appropriately.
- Knowledge of emergency procedures, First Aid, and CPR.
- Flexibility to adapt to schedule changes and additional responsibilities as part of the mental health team.
Job Responsibilities:
- Adaptability to work environment changes.
- Adherence to infection control guidelines.
- Report incidents and risk issues promptly.
- Attend staff meetings and trainings.
- Maintain a safe therapeutic environment.
- Supervise self-administered medications.
- Implement daily/weekly structures for housing clients.
- Report symptoms of illness or contagious diseases.
- Monitor and document client behavior.
- Provide shift-end reports via email.
- Report emergencies, elopements, or incidents immediately.
- Transport clients for activities and appointments.
- Orient new clients and complete intake paperwork.
- Search belongings for contraband and secure valuables and medications.
- Conduct random searches for contraband.
- Monitor residential clients' curfews and rules compliance.
- Perform blood pressure checks, hand washing, and medication observation.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- CPR Certification preferred
- 0-1 years’ experience working with mental health patients preferred
