Job summary

Legal Action of Wisconsin seeks a Government Relations Director to build sustained relationships with Wisconsin policymakers and to secure meaningful state funding for civil legal aid. This is a highly relational role requiring visibility in Madison and at the State Capitol.

The Director will develop a year‑round strategy, engage with legislators and staff, educate on our clients’ needs, and work with the External Relations team to align federal and state messaging and compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree required.
• Extensive experience in Wisconsin government relations.
• Proven ability to build bipartisan relationships with legislators and staff.
• Strong oral and written communication, policy analysis, and strategic planning.

Responsibilities

• Lead strategy to secure state investment in civil legal aid.
• Develop year-round government-relations plan beyond budget cycles.
• Build relationships with legislators, staff, and executive officials.
• Represent Legal Action to Congress and policymakers.
• Ensure compliance with lobbying restrictions and reporting.
• Collaborate with leadership and external-relations team.
