Job summary

Legal Action of Wisconsin seeks a Government Relations Manager in Madison to develop and implement a year‑round strategy securing state funding for civil legal aid. The role requires building trusted relationships with legislators, staff, and executive officials, communicating our impact, and guiding policymakers through informed engagement.

The candidate will work with leadership to coordinate federal funding education and maintain in-district and Capitol-based presence, four days per week

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or at least 10 years of experience in legislative relations or equivalent.
• Demonstrated ability to build relationships with legislators, staff, and executive-branch officials in Wisconsin.
• Ability to work independently, travel within Wisconsin, and work in person at least four days a week.

Responsibilities

• Lead strategy to secure, maintain, and expand state investment in civil legal aid.
• Develop year-round government-relations strategy beyond budget cycles.
• Maintain relationships with legislators, staff, and policymakers across parties.
• Ensure policymakers understand Legal Action’s impact and the value of civil legal aid.
• Coordinate with Leadership and External Relations to inform Congress and staff about federal funding.
