Job summary

Socket.dev is seeking an electrical control panel assembler to build and wire industrial panels per engineering drawings and customer specs in a clean, safe manufacturing environment.

You will read schematics, route and label wires, drill enclosures, perform basic electrical tests, troubleshoot, and ensure on-time delivery while upholding UL/NEC requirements.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated electrical knowledge with wiring experience.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and assembly drawings.
  • Ability to safely use hand tools and basic electrical test equipment.

  • Troubleshoot wiring issues and verify against specifications.
  • Maintain a clean, safe work area and follow safety procedures.
  • Communicate shortages or quality concerns promptly.
  • Support cross-training and other production duties.

Job description

Position Summary

Builds and wires electrical control panels and related assemblies in accordance with engineering drawings, wiring schematics, customer specifications, and applicable quality and safety requirements. This role directly supports production output and on-time delivery.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assemble, wire, and terminate industrial control panels and related electrical components, including circuit breakers, control relays, lighting contactors, selector switches, pilot lights, transformers, GFCIs, and terminal blocks.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, bills of material, assembly drawings, and work instructions.
  • Route, cut, strip, label, tag, and terminate wires and cables neatly and accurately.
  • Drill, tap, punch, cut, and prepare stainless-steel and aluminum enclosures or panels for component installation.
  • Perform in-process inspections and basic electrical testing, including continuity, voltage, and amperage checks, as trained and authorized.
  • Troubleshoot basic wiring and component issues by tracing circuits, checking breakers and fuses, and evaluating switches, relays, and connections.
  • Verify completed work against drawings, specifications, quality standards, and production documentation.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, materials, and work areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
  • Follow applicable safety procedures and support compliance with UL, NEC, customer, and internal quality requirements.
  • Communicate material shortages, drawing discrepancies, quality concerns, and production barriers promptly.
  • Support cross-training and perform other production duties as assigned.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated electrical knowledge and experience wiring electrical components or control equipment.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and assembly drawings.
  • Ability to use hand tools, small power tools, measuring devices, and basic electrical test equipment safely.
  • Ability to work the established production schedule; current shop hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., subject to business needs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous control-panel, switchgear, or panelboard wiring experience.
  • Formal electrical or technical training.
  • Familiarity with UL, NEC, and/or CSA requirements.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Work is performed primarily in a manufacturing environment and requires regular standing, walking, bending, reaching, and use of hands and tools. The employee must be able to lift and move materials associated with the role. Specific lifting requirements and any exposure to noise, electrical components, sharp edges, or moving equipment should be confirmed through the site’s job-demand and safety review.
