Job summary

Spike Electric and Controls LLC in Pasadena, TX is seeking a Wiring Lead to coordinate control panel wiring on the shop floor. You will lead wiring build activities and ensure compliance with schematics, BOMs, and standards.

The role requires 2+ years in electro-mechanical manufacturing, strong reading of diagrams, and hands-on tooling proficiency. You will mentor assemblers, conduct shift handoffs, and uphold quality and safety.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of electro-mechanical manufacturing experience, specifically control wiring and switchgear panels.
• Ability to read wiring diagrams/schematics and follow work instructions.
• Proficiency with common wiring/harness tooling (crimpers, wire strippers, terminal blocks, continuity tester).

Wiring Lead

The Manufacturing Wiring Lead must have strong communication skills to effectively coordinate switchgear/control wiring work across the shop floor. This includes:

• Lead wiring build activities for control panels and associated assemblies (terminals, relays, terminal blocks, meters/IO, control devices, etc.).
• Read and interpret:
  • schematics & wiring diagrams
  • panel layouts / one-lines
  • BOMs and cable/harness lists
  • work instructions, travelers, and label/routing standards
• Ensure correct:
  • wire sizing, terminal selection, pinouts
  • wire dress, routing, separation of power/control where required
  • labeling/identification (wire markers, terminal IDs, harness tags)
  • termination quality (crimp technique, torque/spec adherence)
  • strain relief, bundling, and installation neatness (5S expectations)
• Verify harnesses and control wiring prior to panel closure to prevent rework.

Quality Checks & Documentation

• Perform or oversee in-process inspections (as assigned) to ensure workmanship meets internal quality standards (and any IPC/industry specs if applicable).
• Identify defects (mis-wire, incorrect termination, missing labels, incorrect routing) and drive corrective actions:
  • rework containment
  • documentation updates
  • feedback loop to improve the process
• Maintain accurate documentation and traceability (travelers, inspection records, test logs where required).

Troubleshooting & Support

• Troubleshoot wiring errors using diagrams, continuity verification, and panel documentation.
• Support debug/rework activities efficiently while maintaining quality and safety.

Team Leadership (Day Shift)

• Assign tasks, balance workload across workbenches/cells, and track production progress vs. schedule.
• Train and mentor assemblers on switchgear wiring practices, labeling, and documentation use.
• Run shift handoffs and communication:
  • priorities
  • material shortages/shortages risk
  • recurring defects
  • engineering/process updates

Materials & Flow Support

• Coordinate kitting/staging needs:
  • confirm correct parts/harnesses
  • ensure labels/materials are available
• Flag material issues early to reduce downtime.

Requirements

• 2+ years’ experience in electro-mechanical manufacturing, specifically:
  • control wiring
  • switchgear/control panels
  • wiring harness or cable assembly
• Strong ability to read wiring diagrams/schematics and follow work instructions.
• Proficiency with common wiring/harness tools, such as:
  • crimpers/crimp tooling
  • wire strippers/cutting tools
  • terminal block tools
  • continuity/multimeter (or equivalent) for basic verification
• Demonstrated ability to maintain quality and reduce rework.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience assembling switchgear/control cabinets (e.g., industrial power distribution, MCC/SCADA interface wiring, motor control panels, protective relays/IO).
• Familiarity with quality standards such as IPC or internal workmanship criteria.
• Experience leading others (even informally) or acting as a go-to wiring resource.
• Experience with ECO/engineering change updates and documentation control.
