Job Title: Wire Power Cable Application Engineer III

Location: Remote. Preferably near Atlanta market

Job Summary/Objective:

The Applications Engineering team plays a critical role in servicing residential, commercial, industrial, OEM, and utility customers, supporting rapid growth in North America and internationally. CableTechSupportTM Services was established with the Re3TM mission: to Respond, Rectify, and Restore electrical systems using Reinforced, Resilient, and Reliable Solutions. Our large engineering team provides industry-leading consultation and technical support.

We seek a subject matter expert with extensive experience in commercial, residential (retail), and mega data center markets to develop innovative wire and cable solutions, initiate field service solutions to enhance safety, eliminate pain points, and reduce total project costs.

The role involves aligning engineering activities with company goals, driving specifications in key market segments, and interfacing directly with contractors and electricians. The engineer will lead innovation efforts, collaborate with sales, operations, and product management, and deliver value-added solutions to electricians, contractors, engineers, project owners, and EPCs. Commercial experience and proficiency in designing and implementing large-scale service solutions are essential.

Key Responsibilities

• Drive innovation to provide the best technical and value-added products and systems for commercial, residential, and infrastructure markets.
• Identify user pain points throughout the product lifecycle and translate them into engineering innovations, including patented solutions. Summarize features, functionalities, compliance, and performance for submission into the Stage-Gate process.
• Review complex electrical wiring designs (AC/DC), accessories, and system connectivity to ensure optimal installation procedures and field solutions.
• Develop and launch new service solutions such as cable repair kits, nitrogen purging services, estimators, calculators, and testing recommendations.
• Leverage application knowledge and Voice of the Customer insights to create calculators, whitepapers, and technical documents on southwire.com/services/cabletech-support-services.
• Promote CableTechSupportTM Services through customer training videos, whitepapers, articles, webinars, and conference speaking engagements.
• Develop sustainable solutions to improve field efficiencies, accelerate growth, and increase market share.
• Serve as an internal SME to build organizational capabilities and external reputation.

Education, Experience, and Skills

Required

• 10+ years of experience in R&D, application support, or product engineering within the Wire and Cable, Power, Utility, Manufacturing, or Electrical industries. Hands-on experience with cable installation, splicing, terminations, and connectors is essential.
• Ability to travel 50% nationally.

Preferred

• 15+ years of experience, with extensive field experience in residential, commercial, telecom, or utility installations highly desirable.
• Research and development background preferred.
• Master electrician or certified cable splicer certifications are advantageous.
• Skills in nimble learning, customer focus, planning, stakeholder management, and action orientation.
