Job summary

Archer, an aerospace company based in San Jose, California, is seeking an electrical engineer to design wiring harnesses for an all-electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft and to create wiring diagrams and documentation.

You will work with avionics and power/engineering teams to define system architecture, implement ARINC/CAN/Ethernet protocols, and ensure compliance with industry standards while supporting lab bring-up and rework as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace Engineering or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in engineering and design of aircraft wiring.

Responsibilities

  • Create wiring diagrams and harness documentation using Mentor Graphics Capital, Logic and HarnessXC.
  • Understand and implement communication protocols (ARINC, CAN, Ethernet, Serial).
  • Follow industry best practices and guidance for wiring design per AC 43.13-1B, AS50881, ASTM F2639.
  • Collaborate with avionics, power plant and electrical engineering teams to define system architecture and grounding schemes.
  • Generate wiring harness designs for test lab needs (tap ins, relays, data logging, switches, power supplies).
  • Select optimal parts using knowledge of industry standard components.
  • Maintain and expand electrical component library within CAD tools.
  • Assist in lab bring up, test, and provide resolutions and rework instructions.
  • Apply configuration and change management to wiring designs within the aircraft design framework.

What you'll do:
  • Create wiring diagrams and associated wire harness drawing documentation using Mentor Graphics Capital, Logic and HarnessXC
  • Understand and implement communication protocols (ARINC, CAN, Ethernet, Serial)
  • Follow industry best practices and guidance for the design and installation of the wire harnesses (AC 43.13-1B, AS50881, ASTM F2639)
  • Work with avionics, power plant and electrical engineering teams to define the system architecture and wiring connections, including grounding schemes and EMI mitigation strategies
  • Generate wiring harness designs for test lab specific needs (tap ins, relays, data logging, switches, power supplies)
  • Use your knowledge of industry standard components to select optimal parts to suit specific design applications and requirements
  • Maintain, organize, and expand electrical component library within the CAD toolset for use across project design tasks
  • Assist in lab bring up, test and operation, and offer resolutions and rework instructions when required
  • Use strong configuration and change management skills to produce and modify wiring designs within the aircraft design framework
