Job summary

City of Hillsboro is seeking Program and Facility Attendants for the Winter Village ice rink. This seasonal, part-time on-call role may rotate among cashier, waiver attendant, skate checkout attendant, ice monitor, and safety monitor.

You will work in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment, helping with registrations, payments, skate rentals, safety, and ice maintenance. Weekend shifts are required and the schedule includes evenings during the season.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED plus one year of related experience, or equivalent combination.
  • Positions are safety sensitive and may require a drug screen.
  • Weekend availability is required; Saturdays and Sundays are common shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Check in skaters and assist with registrations.
  • Process payments for walk-up skaters.
  • Provide skate rentals and maintain rental skates.
  • Troubleshoot on-site technology and assist patrons.
  • Maintain and repair the ice between skating sessions.
  • Regularly patrol the ice and ensure rink rules are followed.
  • Monitor and manage crowds on and off the ice.
  • Assess customer needs and respond appropriately to emergencies.
  • Work collaboratively across rink roles and support other operational needs.

Hillsboro’s outdoor, open-air ice-skating rink is back! Join the Parks & Recreation team for Winter Village and help create a fun, welcoming skating experience for the community. Position Overview & Key Responsibilities

Program and Facility Attendants support the day-to-day operation of the outdoor ice rink. You’ll work in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment and may rotate among several roles, including cashier, waiver attendant, skate checkout attendant, ice monitor, and safety monitor. You’ll need to be comfortable working on the ice and helping maintain a safe, positive environment for skaters.

What You’ll Be Doing:
  • Check in skaters and assist with registrations.
  • Process payments for walk-up skaters.
  • Provide skate rentals and maintain rental skates.
  • Troubleshoot on-site technology and assist patrons with questions.
  • Ensure required safety waivers are completed.
  • Maintain and repair the ice between skating sessions.

  • Work collaboratively across different rink roles and support other operational needs as assigned.

You’ll be successful in this role if you enjoy working with people, can adapt quickly in a busy environment, and are comfortable taking on different responsibilities throughout your shift.

Program and Facility Attendant
Acceptable Experience & Training
  • High School Diploma or GED and one year of related experience; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the position.

Positions that are considered safety sensitive, including working with children, may be subject to a drug screen before being hired. The City of Hillsboro is a Drug Free Organization that tests for schedule one drugs which includes marijuana.

Work Environment & Schedule
  • Winter Village runs from November 29th and ends January 10th.
  • Part-time, on-call seasonal work with up to approximately 11.5 hours per week.
  • One shift per day.
  • Weekend availability is required. Most available shifts are Saturdays and Sundays, and selected employees will be scheduled to work weekends throughout the season.
  • AM shift: Saturday–Sunday throughout the season, with Monday–Sunday availability during winter break, 9:30 a.m.– 3:15 p.m.
  • PM shift: Monday–Sunday throughout the season, 3:00 p.m. – 8:45 p.m.
  • Rink is closed December 24, December 25, and January 1.
  • Work may include spending extended periods on or around the ice and performing physically active rink duties.
  • Ability to attend work on a regular, predictable basis as scheduled is required. Hiring timelines are subject to change.

Bilingual Incentive Pay Available

Employees who can demonstrate the ability to speak Spanish, ASL, or any other language spoken by over 10% of the City residents as documented by the most recent U.S. Census, will receive a monthly 3% premium pay. The incentive is only paid on hours in paid status. Proficiency will be determined by a City-administered test.
