Job summary

Montana Department of Transportation in Missoula is seeking Temporary Snowplow drivers with heavy equipment operation experience for winter road maintenance, including snow removal, right-of-way cleanup, guardrail repairs, signs and luminaires, traffic control and salt brine production.

Shifts vary 4–8 hours, 20–40 hours weekly; season runs mid‑November to March depending on weather. Must live within 45 road miles of the work HQ and be ready for emergency weather conditions.

Qualifications

• Valid Montana Commercial Operators License (Class A, Type II) with no restrictions, a tank endorsement and a MEC.
• Learner’s permit holders have 30 days to obtain the full Montana CDL.
• Must live within 45 road miles of the work headquarters.

Responsibilities

• Snow plowing and winter road maintenance operations.
• Clean the right of way, fix guardrails, signs, and luminaires.
• Salt brine production and temporary traffic control as needed.
• Perform moderate physical activity and operate hand or power tools.
