Job summary

The Montana Department of Transportation is recruiting for Temporary Snowplow drivers with heavy equipment operation experience for winter road maintenance. This includes snow removal, cleaning the right of way, fixing guardrail, repairing fences, signs, and luminaires, traffic control and salt brine production.

Shifts vary between 4 hours and 8 hours, totaling 20–40 hours per week. Season typically runs from mid-November to March.

Qualifications

• Valid Montana Commercial Operators License (Class A, Type II) with no restrictions.
• Tank endorsement and a Medical Examiner’s Certificate (MEC) required.
• Learner’s permit holders have 30 days to obtain the license.

Responsibilities

• Drive and operate snowplows and heavy equipment for winter road maintenance.
• Perform snow removal, right-of-way cleaning, and minor repairs to signs, fences, and luminaires.
• Assist with traffic control and salt brine production as needed.
