Job summary

Collaborative-Support-Programs in New Jersey is seeking seasonal Warming Center Mentor(s) to support the overnight shelter for unhoused individuals from November through March. Mentors help ensure safety and emotional well-being, assist with intake, distribute supplies, and connect guests with community resources.

The part-time role offers three shifts (5:00pm–12:00am, 12:00am–6:00am, 6:00am–10:00am) for up to 29 hours weekly at $20.00 per hour, with $100 holiday shift pay.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required with 1–2 years of homeless services experience.
• Ability to build positive, supportive relationships with guests.
• Ability to work with diverse populations and communities.
• Willingness to share personal recovery journey when appropriate.
• Compassionate, respectful approach to mental health challenges.
• Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office.
• Bilingual skills are a plus.
• Lived experience with mental health or substance use issues encouraged.

Responsibilities

• Greet guests warmly and create a welcoming environment.
• Serve as a positive role model through professionalism and reliability.
• Promote a safe, healthy, and supportive environment for guests.
• Maintain center cleanliness and report safety concerns promptly.
• Respond to behavioral health crises with crisis intervention and de-escalation.
• Adhere to staffing schedules to ensure coverage and program delivery.
• Support guests in connecting with community resources.
