Role Overview :

This position is responsible for performing general highway maintenance duties that keep INDOT assets in good working condition to ensure customer satisfaction. Seasonal Winter Program Workers perform snow and ice removal and related maintenance duties by operation of snow plow and other winter operations duties as required. Traffic maintenance duties such as repairing and installing traffic signs and pavement markings are also required. A CDL is required for this position.

Preferred Start Dates :

Start on any of the following dates and receive a $250 sign-on bonus:

  • Tuesday, November 12th, 2024
  • Monday, November 25th, 2024
  • Monday, December 9th, 2024

Retention Bonus :

A $500 retention bonus is offered to Winter Seasonal Maintenance Workers working full-time, hired on or before 12/9/24, who stay through 3/21/25.

Salary :

This position has an hourly rate of $[amount] per hour.

Location :

This Seasonal Winter position is in INDOT's Falls City Sub District, with locations including Falls City, Sellersburg, and Corydon.

A Day in the Life :

The essential functions of this role are as follows :

  • Operate highway maintenance and traffic equipment to maintain, repair, and clean highways and right-of-way.
  • Move and load supplies and materials.
  • Perform winter operation duties including snow and ice removal.
  • Perform emergency response activities such as clean-up, traffic control, lane closures, placement of signs, and erecting barricades.
  • Perform equipment maintenance such as minor repairs, preventative maintenance, refueling, and pre-trip inspections.
  • Comply with INDOT Safety Policies and Procedures.
  • Perform miscellaneous labor tasks.
  • Perform job documentation tasks such as entry into the Work Management System (WMS).

What You'll Need for Success :

You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment :

  • High school graduate or High School Equivalent (HSE) preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL).
  • Must pass a drug test.
  • Ability to move 50 pounds.
  • Ability to perform physical activities such as lifting, dragging, stooping, standing, and walking for long periods.
  • Ability to endure exposure to inclement weather.
  • Ability to operate specialty traffic equipment (bucket trucks, paint equipment, etc.).
  • Follow directions and work as part of a team.
  • Work unpredictable and non-traditional hours as necessary for winter operations.
  • Benefits of Employment with the State of Indiana :

    This seasonal position does not offer benefits and is limited to 180 working days within an eleven-month period.
