Job summary

The State of Illinois, Department of Transportation, seeks Snow Removal Operators for the 2026/2027 season. These on-call, non-benefit positions operate snow removal equipment, perform routine road maintenance, and assist in emergency snow and ice control across District 4.

Qualifications

• Completion of four years of high school or equivalent.
• For seasonal employees: Class B CDL with endorsements (X or N) for two years; at the beginning of the third year, Class A CDL with endorsements (X or N) and no airbrake restrictions.
• One year driving experience immediately preceding appointment with a clean driving record.

Responsibilities

• Operates CDL Class A or B licensed vehicles.
• Assists in emergency snow and ice control.
• Maintains and services equipment such as trucks, snowplows, salt spreaders and related gear.
• Performs routine housekeeping and upkeep of headquarters grounds.
• Works on additional duties related to snow removal and road maintenance as assigned.
