Job summary

The Illinois Department of Transportation is seeking temporary Snow Removal Operators for the 2026/2027 Snow and Ice Season. Operators perform maintenance and repair tasks on roads, bridges, and related structures to ensure safe winter operations across multiple yard locations in District 8.

These are hourly, non-benefit, on-call positions with flexible hours and a heavy outdoor work component. A CDL with appropriate endorsements is required, and compliance with safety protocols is essential for

Qualifications

• Requires Class B CDL with endorsements for seasonal work; upgrade to Class A by year three.
• One year of driving experience immediately preceding appointment.
• Requires ability to perform arduous outdoor labor in varied weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Operate CDL Class A or B licensed vehicles.
• Assist in emergency snow and ice control.
• Service, wash and perform minor repairs on trucks, snowplows, salt spreaders and other equipment.
• Perform routine housekeeping duties and general care of HQ grounds.
• Handle additional duties within the scope of the role as assigned.
