Job summary

The State of Nebraska is hiring temporary Winter Highway Maintenance Workers to support winter operations across Auburn, Beatrice, David City, and surrounding areas. You will assist with snow removal, operate heavy equipment, and respond to highway emergencies during the snow season.

Positions are temporary through March 31, 2027, with pay starting at $20.39/hour, and higher rates for CDL holders. Training and safety rules apply; attendance and reliability are essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum Qualifications: Highway Maintenance Worker: must be at least 18 years old and possess a valid driver’s license.
• Highway Maintenance Worker/Senior: must be 18+, valid driver's license, and Class A/B CDL with air brakes and tanker endorsements within 60 days.

Responsibilities

• Help with Winter Operations.
• Perform snow removal.
• Operate heavy equipment for road maintenance.
• Perform tree trimming.
• Respond to highway emergencies.
• Move, drag, lift, and load equipment/materials safely within weight limits.
• Spread and tamp surfacing materials.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
