Job summary

Ecology Project International (EPI) seeks field instructors for its Yellowstone winter program. Join a team teaching hands-on ecology courses to middle and high school students, coordinating with partners, and guiding field research and conservation projects in a safe, inclusive learning environment.

Position runs January–April 2027 with pre-season training and post-season sessions. Seasonal role with room for potential summer program opportunities in related initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and ability to work with youth from diverse backgrounds.
  • Bachelor's degree in biology, ecology, environmental education, or related field; or equivalent experience.
  • 1–2 years of experience delivering science and ecology curricula.
  • 1–2 years of outdoor leadership with young adults in remote areas.
  • 1–2 years of field research experience.
  • 2–4 years of experience working well on a small team in dynamic environments.
  • Valid driver’s license with insurable driving record.
  • Legally able to work in the US.

Responsibilities

  • Provide and lead a positive field experience for participants with up to two co-instructors.
  • Plan and deliver experiential environmental education lessons.
  • Create an inclusive group culture and safe learning environment.
  • Oversee and/or lead research activities following protocols.
  • Lead conservation projects with risk-management principles.
  • Collaborate and communicate with teachers, chaperones, participants, partners and staff.
  • Complete paperwork accurately and on time.
  • Maintain course gear and equipment in good order.
