Job summary

Teton Science Schools in Wyoming seeks Field Education Instructors to guide place-based field science and leadership experiences for students across parks and public lands. Programs span 4–7 days, with winter snow activities and summer hiking, canoeing, and camping, often on weekends with flexible days off.

Lead Instructors mentor peers, help with curriculum development, and ensure safety. The role emphasizes inclusive learning, teamwork, and outreach as a program ambassador.

Qualifications

  • At least one season of place-based outdoor teaching experience.
  • Background in science (education, ecology, natural resources, or related field)
  • Experience in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem (preferred)
  • Spanish language skills (preferred)
  • Valid Wilderness First Responder certification and Driver’s License by start date
  • Minimum of 21 years of age; must pass background check and driving record review

Responsibilities

  • Lead groups of 10–13 participants in inquiry-based, place-based field science and leadership experiences.
  • Promote social-emotional growth and establish a positive group culture.
  • Develop and implement thematic, standards-aligned science curriculum.
  • Drive 15-passenger vans and respond to emergencies per policy.
  • Represent Teton Science Schools at local and regional outreach events.
  • Assist with mealtimes, cleaning, and maintenance of lodges and spaces.
  • Participate in professional development and team collaboration.
  • Mentor instructors and AmeriCorps members; support lesson planning.
