Job summary

Adventure Science Center in Nashville, TN is seeking a Winter Break Camp Counselor for a seasonal, non-exempt position paying $15.45 per hour. Camp programs engage youth ages 5-11 with hands-on STEM activities during winter break.

You will supervise groups up to 20, follow a set curriculum, ensure safety, and support curious learners through experiments and teamwork. Shifts run 7:30 am–5:30 pm with training on Dec 20.

Position Title:Winter Break Camp Counselor
FLSA Classification:Non-Exempt, Seasonal
Pay Rate:$15.45 per hour

Adventure Science Center’s mission is to open every mind to the wonders of science and technology, fostering a better understanding of ourselves and the world around us.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Camp at Adventure Science Center (ASC) provides a wide range of science enrichment programs for youth ages 5-11. Programs combine science, technology, engineering, and math in ways that encourage kids to actively discover and examine concepts for themselves. We inspire a lifelong passion for learning and teach kids creative problem-solving skills, teamwork, persistence, and follow-through in a fun learning environment.

Important Dates for the 2026 Winter Break Camp Season:

  • Paid training will take place on Sunday, December 20th
  • Winter Break Camp session will run: Monday, December 21st – Tuesday, December 22nd and Monday, December 28th – Thursday, December 31st
  • Camp staff can work one or both weeks
  • Shifts may vary; camp is open 7:30 am – 5:30 pm

Consistent with the mission and vision of Adventure Science Center, and under the direction of the Programs Coordinator, the Camp Counselor is responsible for supervising his/her assigned group of up to 20 campers who are organized by grade levels K-4 (ages range 5-11). Camp staff maintain the safety of the campers and ensure the camp’s daily program runs efficiently through detailed supervision and objective decision-making. Camp counselors utilize a set curriculum, organized supplies, and established programming to facilitate exciting, memorable camp experiences and activities.

QUALIFICATIONS

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Education: High School graduate. Background in STEAM/STEM education a plus
  • Ability to manage large groups in a fun, educational environment
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation/facilitation skills
  • Positive attitude required: strong desire to work with and inspire children from diverse backgrounds in a fun, learning atmosphere
  • First Aid/CPR/AED (Adult and/or Pediatric) certification preferred
  • The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts requiring normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, use of safe work practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire regulations.
  • Typically, walking, standing, bending and carrying light items (up to 20 pounds unassisted), and 50 pounds assisted are required. At times, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. Also, the employee must have manual dexterity, visual and auditory acuity.
  • Some repetitive motion is involved.
