Job summary

Acker, America’s oldest and most respected wine shop, is hiring a full-time Retail Sales Associate to help customers select wine and spirits in the New York store. You will ensure merchandise is stocked, process sales and returns, and stay current on wine industry trends.

Requirements include 1–3 years of wine sales experience, passion for wine & spirits, strong communication skills, and the ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

• 1–3 years wine sales experience required.
• Genuine passion for wine & spirits.
• Sommelier experience or WSET preferred.
• Experience with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Strong customer service orientation with excellent communication skills.
• Willingness to work nights, weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Provide exceptional customer service in-store or over the phone.
• Ring up sales and arrange delivery or pickup as needed.
• Build rapport and make honest recommendations.
• Assist in in-store tastings and special events.
• Support managers and team members across departments.
• Set up merchandise displays on the sales floor.
• Write wine and spirits descriptions and shelf talkers.
• Invite customers to join wine club.

This role helps customers select wine and/or spirits in the Acker store. The duties also include ensuring the store is appropriately stocked with merchandise, performing transactions like sales and returns and maintaining personal knowledge on wine industry trends.

Duties And Responsibilities

• Provide exceptional customer service to customers when they walk through the door or over the phone.
• Ring up sales and arranging for delivery or pick-up of the customer’s order if needed.
• Build rapport through conversation and honest recommendations.
• Assist in special events and in-store tastings.
• Support Fine and Rare and Business Development managers and team members.
• Assist in setting up merchandise displays on the sales floor.
• Write wine and spirits descriptions and shelf talkers.
• Invite customers to join wine club.
• Other related duties as assigned from time to time.

Requirements

• 1 – 3 years of experience in wine sales experience required.
• Genuine appreciation of and passion for the Wine & Spirits industry.
• Sommelier experience preferred. WSET preferred
• Experience with Microsoft based application, including Word, Excel, Outlook.
• Customer Service focused with the ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers.
• High-energy, team player with excellent communication skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work nights, weekends and holidays.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
• Regularly lifts and moves cases of wine and spirits, up to fifty (50) pounds.
