Job Title: Wine & Spirits Clerk

General Function: Provides prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service. Educates customers about products. Rotates, faces, and replenishes merchandise and ensures highest quality standards are met.

Reporting Relations

Accountable and Reports to: District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Manager of Perishables, Store Operations, and Health Wellness Home; Wine & Spirits Department Manager

Positions that Report to you: None

Primary Duties And Responsibilities
  • Provides prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern, and patience in all customer interactions.
  • Smiles and greets customers in a friendly manner, whether in the designated department or elsewhere in the store.
  • Makes an effort to learn customers’ names and address them by name whenever possible.
  • Assists customers by escorting them to products, securing out-of-reach items, loading/unloading heavy items, passing along suggestions, and enhancing the shopping experience.
  • Answers the telephone promptly and provides helpful service.
  • Works with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
  • Educates customers about products.
  • Rotates, faces, and replenishes merchandise, ensuring quality standards.
  • Checks in product, puts away product, and reviews invoices.
  • Maintains displays and follows policies on sales of tobacco and liquor.
  • Removes trash timely, practices sanitation, and maintains a clean work area.
  • Adheres to personal hygiene and dress guidelines, reports to work on time.
Secondary Duties And Responsibilities
  • Orders product at supervisor’s request.
  • Assists with inventory and building displays.
  • Supports other store areas and performs related duties.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and deal with concrete variables.
  • Basic math skills and ability to record information.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal/demonstrated instructions and request supplies orally or in writing.
Education and Experience
  • No formal education requirement.
  • 6 months to 1 year of related work experience preferred.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to exert up to 50 pounds occasionally, 20 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly.
  • Visual and physical activities include climbing, balancing, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
Working Conditions

Occasional exposure to dirt, cleaning solvents, equipment hazards, temperature extremes, and dampness in a fast-paced environment.

Equipment Used

Two-wheeler, cash register, pallet jack, box cutter, feather duster, telephone.

Contacts

Daily contact with customers, employees, vendors, regulatory agencies, and the public.

Starting hourly wage: $13.50 to $16.80, depending on experience.
