Job summary

ABB’s NEMA Motors Division in Athens, GA is seeking a production assembler to perform winding and assembly tasks in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

You will read shop orders, operate hand tools, perform quality checks, and ensure safety procedures. The role requires physical effort and the ability to work in shift patterns.

Responsibilities

  • Perform assembly work to produce semi-finished or final products.
  • Use light hand tools for manual tasks.
  • Carry out regular quality testing as part of production.
  • Maintain clean work area and follow SOPs.
  • Read and interpret information from prints and internal documentation.
  • Follow safety procedures including lock out/tag out.
  • Demonstrate ability to work in two winding centers within 18 months.

Your role and responsibilities
  • Conducting all types of assembly work to produce semi-finished or final products/systems/panels, including the packing where integrated with production lines.
  • Performing work manually or by using light hand tools.
  • Carrying out regular quality testing as part of a defined production process.
  • Operating within standard operating procedures and maintaining a clean work area.
  • Demonstrate the ability to satisfactorily perform in two (2) Winding department work centers within an eighteen (18) month period.
  • Ability to receive and understand verbal and written technical instructions in English and respond in English.
  • The ability to read and interpret information from prints, factory orders, routings and other internal documentation in hard copy or electronic formats.
  • Function safely in an industrial manufacturing setting where factory physical conditions exist, including shift work as required.
  • Use appropriate gauges and measuring devices.
  • Have the knowledge of basic mathematics needed to measure in fractions.
  • Meet quality and productivity requirements.
  • Follow lock out/tag out and other safety procedures.

The following are considered work centers withing the Winding Department:

Insulation, Coil Wind, Small Hand Wind, Large Hand Wind, Automatic Stator Wind, Final Form/Trim/Sleeve, Connect, Braze, Lash, Surge Test, Repair, Material Mover, Upender

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Conform to policies and procedures as an ABB employee. Perform housekeeping duties as required. Train, share knowledge & information with coworkers. Other duties/responsibilities as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The ability to lift up to 50 lbs. close to the body and 35 lbs. away from the body 60% of the time. More than 50 lbs. 40% of the time with assistance. The ability and willingness to use the company designated personal protective equipment. Visual acuity (corrected) to read directions, prints and gauges. Frequent bending, stooping, twisting and lifting (assisted and unassisted). Ability to stand for extended periods of time. Ability to work in a factory environment (concrete floor, heat, cold, noise, allergies, etc.) Physically highly repetitive in nature.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

High School diploma or equivalent (GED).

Utilize and function with basic computer skills as defined by the company.
