Job summary

NASA Glenn Research Center seeks a Journeyman Mechanical Technician to support 8×6/9×15 Wind Tunnels. You will perform routine and complex mechanical tasks, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain test-related hardware and facility systems for high temperature fuel systems, with rotating shifts and occasional overtime.

The role requires a minimum of 4 years as a Journeyman Mechanic and a 4-year apprenticeship; welding, fabrication, and hands-on maintenance are essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum 4 years experience as a Journeyman Level Mechanic or maintenance technician.
• Completion of a 4-year State approved apprenticeship with Journeyman certificate preferred.
• Experience operating and maintaining test facilities and associated equipment.

Responsibilities

• Operate facility overhead crane and lifting equipment.
• Weld using oxy-acetylene, MIG and TIG on various metals.
• Use power tools and machine tools to fabricate and repair hardware and systems.
• Disassemble, repair, reassemble and verify valves and valve operators.
• Follow detailed work instructions and safety procedures.
• Collaborate with engineers and supervision to ensure test facility readiness.
