Job Description:

Summary:

The person in this position will work with multidisciplinary project teams providing electrical engineering and related technical expertise. Work will include preparing designs for DC and AC collection systems and power plant controllers. Projects will focus on design and analysis, including preparing plans and specifications, writing reports, and developing cost estimations related to renewable energy facilities. The person in this position will also be responsible for managing projects, coaching and mentoring less-experienced staff, providing technical leadership, and managing teams to meet clients' needs. The work may involve short-term out-of-town assignments.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering
  • At least 5 years of related experience in a design capacity on relevant projects
  • Knowledge of and experience with DC and AC solar collection system design
  • Experience with power plant controllers
  • Working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, laws, and regulations
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a high-energy team environment with self-initiative
  • Flexible working style and willingness to modify personal schedule as needed
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within one year
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience with collection system studies (ampacity, short circuit, reactive power, grounding, insulation coordination, harmonic, transient overvoltage)
  • Experience with energy storage facilities
  • Authoritative resource modeling and assessment skills (e.g., PVsyst, Windographer)
  • Experience with statistical analysis of solar and wind data, resource and energy production forecasts, site conditions, and technology suitability
  • Experience with data collection, post-construction measurement, and project contracts
  • Strong project organization and management skills
  • Client-relationship and business development skills
  • Experience with AutoCAD

Work Arrangement and Location:

A hybrid or remote work arrangement may be considered. The position can be based in Barr's offices or in Minneapolis, Duluth, Hibbing, Denver, Fort Collins, Wheat Ridge, Ann Arbor, or Grand Rapids. Remote arrangements depend on qualifications and company needs.

Compensation:

The salary range is $89,000-$118,000/year. This is an exempt position under FLSA. Compensation varies based on experience and other factors. Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus and profit sharing through Barr's ESOP.
