Job Description:

Summary:

The person in this position will work with multidisciplinary project teams providing electrical engineering and related technical expertise. Responsibilities include preparing designs for DC and AC collection systems and power plant controllers, focusing on design, analysis, preparing plans and specifications, writing reports, and developing cost estimations related to renewable energy facilities. The role also involves project management, coaching and mentoring staff, providing technical leadership, and team management to meet client needs. Occasional short-term out-of-town assignments may be required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering
  • At least 5 years of related experience in a design capacity on relevant projects
  • Knowledge of and experience with DC and AC solar collection system design
  • Experience with power plant controllers
  • Working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, laws, and regulations
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a high-energy team environment
  • Flexible working style and willingness to adapt schedules as needed
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within one year
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
  • Legal authorization to work in the US without sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of related experience
  • Experience with collection system studies (ampacity, short circuit, reactive power, grounding, insulation coordination, harmonic, transient overvoltage)
  • Experience with energy storage facilities
  • Proficiency with industry-standard resource modeling tools (e.g., PVsyst, Windographer)
  • Experience with statistical analysis of solar and wind data, resource and energy forecasts, site conditions, and technology suitability
  • Experience with data collection, post-construction measurement, and project contracts
  • Strong project organization and management skills
  • Client relationship and business development skills
  • Experience with AutoCAD

Work Arrangements:

A hybrid or remote work arrangement may be considered. The position can be based in Barr's offices or in Minneapolis, Duluth, Hibbing, Denver, Fort Collins, Wheat Ridge, Ann Arbor, or Grand Rapids. Remote options depend on candidate qualifications and company needs.

Compensation:

The salary range is $89,000-$118,000/year, classified as exempt under FLSA. Compensation varies based on experience and other factors. Eligible for discretionary bonuses.
