Job summary

Mortenson Construction is seeking an ironworker for the Wake Repower Wind Project in Floydada, TX. You will mark, position, and secure structural steel, and assist with crane operations to support efficient installation.

Join a collaborative team focused on safety and quality, with duties including interpreting blueprints, tying rebar, and coordinating with crane teams on site.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• 1 year related experience preferred
• Equipment certifications as required
• Current driver's license
• Ability to read and interpret safety regulations, operation manuals, and blueprints
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform repetitive movements

Responsibilities

• Set up and inspect crane operations and rigging
• Manage deliveries and direct forklift/crane unloading
• Count rebar, dobies, and wire mesh
• Install and align reinforcing bars and structural components
• Interpret blueprints and determine reinforcement locations
• Cut and join rebar using appropriate tools
• Reinforce concrete with wire mesh
• Receive components for nacelle, hub, and tower preparation
• Climb ladders and participate in crane assembly/teardown
• Assist with ornamental ironwork as needed
• Collaborate with diverse teams to complete tasks safely

SUMMARY

Mortenson is currently seeking an ironworker that will be responsible for marking, positioning, and securing structural steel members to reinforce concrete or building structures.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Set up, flag, and inspect a crane; inspect rigging properly
• Check in truck deliveries against bill of lading; direct forklift/crane to unload delivery truck
• Counting bars and bundles of rebar, dobies, and wire mesh
• Directing forklift/crane to unload delivery truck
• Shake out rebar, distribute/organize accordingly; use pliers to tie rebar intersections with tie wire
• Splicing mats or rebar sections together with short rebar dowels
• Understanding building codes/requirements
• Cut excess rebar ends and miscellaneous pieces with gas cut saw or cutting torch
• Install mechanical rebar splices by bolting or welding ends together; install caps on vertical rebar dowels for safety ; install rebar dowels into fresh concrete footings
• Determining number, size, shape, and location of reinforcing rods from blueprints, sketches, or oral instructions
• Bending steel rods with hand tools or rodbending machine
• Reinforcing concrete with wire mesh
• Receive and offload all major components; install loose components for nacelle, hub, and tower preparation
• Connect blades to hub; set base and tower sections; handle taglines
• Climb ladders (average 80m)
• Involved with main erection crane assembly and teardown
• Ornamental Ironworker: installing prefabricated ornamental ironwork
• Effectively work and build relationships with those of diverse backgrounds and organizational levels
• All other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma or GED
• One (1) year of related experience preferred
• Equipment certifications as required
• Current driver's license
• Strong teamwork orientation; positive attitude and professional customer service skills; detail orientation; active listening skills and effective communication, including an openness to diverse input and feedback
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety regulations, operation and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; knowledge of equipment and their uses; understand and apply basic mathematical skills (adding, subtracting, division, & multiplication); ability to work independently
• Repetitive hand, arm, leg movements
• *Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling: up to 50 lbs
