Job summary

Mortenson Construction is seeking an ironworker for the Highland Repower Wind Project in Primghar, IA. You will mark, position, and secure structural steel and reinforce concrete structures on a major wind-energy site.

Responsibilities include crane operations, load handling, rebar tying, splicing, and following safety regulations. Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED and relevant experience, with strong teamwork and physical endurance.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• One year of related experience preferred.
• Equipment certifications as required.
• Current driver's license.
• Strong teamwork orientation; positive attitude and professional customer service skills; detail orientation; active listening skills and effective communication, including openness to diverse input and feedback.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety regulations, operation and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; knowledge of equipment and their uses; basic mathematical skills.
• Repetitive hand, arm, leg movements.
• *Lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Counting bars and bundles of rebar, dobies, and wire mesh.
• Directing forklift/crane to unload delivery truck.
• Shake out rebar, distribute/organize accordingly; use pliers to tie rebar intersections with tie wire.
• Splicing mats or rebar sections together with short rebar dowels.
• Understanding building codes/requirements.
• Cut excess rebar ends and miscellaneous pieces with gas cut saw or cutting torch.
• Install mechanical rebar splices by bolting or welding ends together; install caps on vertical rebar dowels for safety; install rebar dowels into fresh concrete footings.
• Determining number, size, shape, and location of reinforcing rods from blueprints, sketches, or oral instructions.
• Bending steel rods with hand tools or rodbending machine.
• Reinforcing concrete with wire mesh.
• Receive and offload all major components; install loose components for nacelle, hub, and tower preparation.
• Connect blades to hub; set base and tower sections; handle taglines.
• Climb ladders (average 80m).
• Involved with main erection crane assembly and teardown.
• Ornamental Ironworker: installing prefabricated ornamental ironwork.
• Effectively work and build relationships with those of diverse backgrounds and organizational levels.
• All other duties as assigned.
