Wind Hub Technician - TX 11 (Amarillo, TX Area)

Job Description Summary

The Wind Technician position requires local travel within the hub. The Wind Technician plays a critical role in maintaining optimal function and output at the wind site by working daily on turbine operations, safety, quality control, and warranty repairs. The technician partners and communicates with the Site Lead and Manager to meet contract requirements and ensure alignment with GE standards.

Essential Responsibilities

• Work with site & hub leadership to execute contractual obligations per customer requirements and daily activities, including electrical and mechanical work on GE wind turbines;
• Perform maintenance, repair, or replacement of parts to correct malfunctions;
• Troubleshoot complex mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical problems on turbines;
• Assist in all site operations as directed by the manager, following safety protocols;
• Conduct diagnostic electrical analysis;
• Document all work using computer-based reporting procedures;
• Coordinate with GE’s remote operations center when necessary.

Qualifications/Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED;
• Minimum of 1 year experience as a Wind Technician/Wind Mechanic, completed Wind Certificate Program/Associate Degree in Energy, or 2 years electrical work experience;

Eligibility Requirements

• Passing a Technical Knowledge Assessment;
• Basic computer skills;
• Valid driver’s license;
• Ability to lift 50 lbs and climb towers up to 300 feet;
• Meet manufacturer weight limits (not exceeding 300 lbs with gear);
• Work in various environments including industrial and power facilities;
• Prioritize work according to contract obligations;
• Work independently and take initiative;
• Work rotating shifts, on-call, and occasional overnight stays.

Desired Characteristics

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field;
• Technical certification in Wind Energy or Electrical/Electronics;
• Experience with wind turbines, hydraulic power tools, heavy equipment, crane, and rigging;
• Ability to work with diverse personnel and take initiative.
