Job summary

The University of Georgia is seeking a Genetics Laboratory Assistant to support graduate students with wildlife and fisheries sample processing, including DNA extractions, sample tracking, and data calling. This role demands attention to detail and the capability to work independently and in teams. Ideal candidates will have a BS degree in biology or related fields and availability of 30-40 hours weekly. This position will primarily be laboratory-based, requiring commitment to sample processing and general lab maintenance.

Qualifications

  • BS degree in biology, genetics, marine science, or wildlife/fisheries preferred.
  • Previous laboratory experience a plus, but not required.
  • Available to work 30-40 hours weekly if not taking classes, 15-20 hours if taking classes during summer.
  • Strong attention to detail, with good organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently or in groups.
  • Capacity to sit or stand at bench for extended periods, with occasional lifting of boxes up to 40 lb.

Responsibilities

  • Sample collection, tracking, and processing for DNA extractions.
  • Data calling and curation.
  • DNA extractions and sample archiving.
  • Dish washing and general lab maintenance.
