Job summary

AmeriCorps State / National Wildlife Educator East position with the Nevada Department of Wildlife. The member will help develop and deliver outdoor wildlife education programs across the Eastern Region (Elko, Lander, White Pine, Eureka).

The term runs 10/01/2026–06/30/2027 with a three-quarter schedule totaling 1200 hours and a monthly stipend of $2,066.66, plus an education award on completion. Responsibilities include program development, volunteer recruitment, and supporting field activities

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Strong communication and public speaking skills preferred.
• Ability to work with diverse groups and in outdoor settings.

Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver outdoor education events, clinics, and field trips focused on wildlife conservation, archery, fishing, hunting, and shooting sports.
• Support volunteer recruitment and training, and provide fieldwork assistance as needed.
• Travel frequently and maintain a flexible schedule including some evenings and weekends; occasional camping in varying weather conditions.

About the Host Site The Nevada Department of Wildlife's (NDOW) Conservation Education division provides wildlife, hunter, angler, archery, boating, and urban wildlife education programs in classrooms and communities throughout Nevada. Through these programs, NDOW reaches thousands of participants each year while advancing its mission of connecting people to wildlife in a positive way. The Wildlife Educator for the East Region will be serving in Elko, Nevada, with the Nevada Department of Wildlife. Schedule: Mon-Fri 8 am-4 pm; however, hours will vary by season, and there will be many weekends. Term of Service & Time Requirements: Three-quarter term, 1200 hours. Start date: 10/01/2026 - 6/31/27. Monthly stipend $2066.66 and an education award after successful completion of the term of $5,176.50. Mission: "To protect, conserve, manage, and restore wildlife and its habitat for the aesthetic, scientific, educational, recreational, and economic benefits to citizens of Nevada and the United States, and to promote the safety of persons using vessels on the waters of Nevada." The Wildlife Educator engages K-12 students in park-based, citizen science, and conservation projects that encourage higher learning in science and environmental subjects.

Member Duties

This position requires a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends, as well as frequent travel, outdoor work, and occasional camping in varying weather conditions.
