Job summary

US Army Corps of Engineers in Oregon seeks a Wildlife Biologist to plan, coordinate, and conduct wildlife management activities across Willamette Valley Projects. You will support project staff in developing wildlife components of Operational Management Plans (OPMs) and review Annual Work Plans for alignment with OPMs.

• Provide technical assistance to the projects in planning and conducting various wildlife management programs.
• Prepare periodic and special reports to include quarterly management and expenditure, nesting box utilization, and the status of wildlife populations and habitats, including federally listed Endangered Species and Species of Concern.

• Maintain computerized files for wildlife management program.
• Plan and coordinate special training sessions for project wildlife coordinators, as required.
• Routinely oversees student interns and other employees in conducting various wildlife management activities.
• Plan and conduct inventories and surveys to collect basic biological information.
• Coordinate wildlife management activities and programs with representatives of other federal and state agencies having licenses or leases on Corps lands and waters in Willamette Valley Projects.
• Develop educational programs for the general public in the form of brochures, slide presentations and interpretive displays.

Basic Requirement For Wildlife Biologist:

• Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological science that included at least 9 semester hours in such wildlife subjects as mammalogy, ornithology, animal ecology, wildlife management, or research courses in the field of wildlife biology; AND at least 12 semester hours in zoology in such subjects as general zoology, invertebrate zoology, vertebrate zoology, comparative anatomy, physiology, genetics, ecology, cellular biology, parasitology, entomology, or research courses in such subjects (excess courses in wildlife biology may be used to meet the zoology requirements where appropriate.); AND at least 9 semester hours in botany or the related plant sciences.
• OR-
• Combination of Education and Experience: Equivalent to a major in biological science (i.e., at least 30 semester hours), with at least 9 semester hours in wildlife subjects, 12 semester hours in zoology, and 9 semester hours in botany or related plant science, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

In Addition To Meeting The Basic Requirement Above, To Qualify For This Position You Must Also Meet The Qualification Requirements Listed Below:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Planning and conducting wildlife resource studies; 2) Interpreting population and wildlife habitat data; and 3) Assisting in preparing wildlife management plans. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: wildlife biology, zoology, or ecology.

Combination of Education and Experience:

A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
