Job summary

The Georgia Forestry Commission seeks a Wildland Firefighter/Ranger to serve in Coweta County, based in Newnan. The role involves aggressive field work in wildland fire suppression and prevention, with training and teamwork in a high-adrenaline outdoor setting.

You will participate in a rotating on-call schedule, operate firefighting equipment, and support community forestry programs, with benefits and state employment stability.

Qualifications

• One year of experience at Ranger 1 (PSP170) or position equivalent, Fire Fighter Type 2 certification, and GFC Prescribed Burn Manager certification.
• Positions require a Commercial Driver's License.

Responsibilities

• Live within 45 minutes of assigned work location.
• Receive training in fire control duties using heavy equipment.
• Assist with maintaining buildings, grounds and equipment.
• Participate in forestry-related services and programs such as reforestation, community and school activities.
• Control and extinguish fires using manual and power equipment.
• Ensure proper operation and maintenance of firefighting equipment.
• Inspect property to ensure compliance with laws, codes and regulations.
• Operate fire engines and hoselays.
• Perform upkeep and maintenance of buildings, grounds, and equipment.
• Prepare reports.
• Carry out the implementation of fire prevention campaigns.
• Respond to fire calls and other emergencies.
• Rotating on-call schedule to respond after hours and on weekends/holidays.
