Qualifications

• GW-05: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GW-4 grade level.
• Successful completion of a 4-year course of study in Fire Science or related field is qualifying for GW-5.
• Selective factors include FFT1 and S-290 NWCG core requirements.

Responsibilities

• Serve as an experienced firefighter on a hand crew or related fire suppression crew.
• May operate chain saws and be certified for helicopter long lines.
• Perform wildland and prescribed fire operations from prep to mop up.
• Collect weather, fuel, and soil moisture data and maintain records.
