Job summary

Forest Service is seeking a seasoned wildland firefighter to join a fire management crew in a nationwide posting. The role involves suppression, prevention, and on-scene management of fires as a senior firefighter on hand, engine, or helitack teams.

Expect duties ranging from water handling and pump operations to leading a small crew and ensuring safe, effective fireline work. This is a temporary, full-time federal position with travel and remote locations as needed.

Qualifications

One year of specialized experience equivalent to GW-04 in federal service or higher; or a 4-year degree with major in Fire Science/Fire Training/Fire Technology; or a combination of education and experience.
Experience patrolling controlled fires and mop-up activities, and serving on specialty crews (hotshot, helitack, engines).
Knowledge of NWCG core requirements and selective placement factors (FFT1 and S-290).

Responsibilities

Serve as a senior firefighter on a hand crew.
Operate on a Fire Engine or helitack crew.
Lead a squad of firefighters and instruct new members on procedures.
Perform duties such as starting and priming pumps, laying hose, and operating nozzles for suppression.
Possess specialized duties such as water handling or faller when required.
