Job summary

FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE AND CONSUMER SERVICES seeks a FOREST RANGER (WILDLAND FIREFIGHTER) to protect and manage state lands in the Felda area. The role requires a high school diploma, 18+ years old, valid driver license, and the ability to obtain a Class A CDL within six months of appointment.

Incumbents may travel occasionally and must be prepared for on-call shifts, with employment in the Florida Forest Service under a Career Service pay plan.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Submit fingerprint card and processing fee as part of background check.
• Possess good moral character as determined by agency.
• Be in good physical condition per NFPA 1582 provisions.

Responsibilities

• Engages in forest fire prevention, detection and suppression activities.
• Operates and maintains fire suppression equipment as qualified.
• Investigates wildfires, gathers evidence, and reports findings to supervisors.
• Provides forestry services to landowners and supports state lands management.
• Performs other duties related to wildfire management and public safety.
