Job summary

The United States Forest Service, Pacific Southwest Region (Region 5), is seeking firefighters for wildland fire suppression and management roles on engines, hotshots, helitack or hand crews. Duties include prevention, patrol, detection, or prescribed burning, with eligibility per GW-03/GW-04 standards.

Applicants must demonstrate the experience requirements, and transcripts may be requested for education-based qualifications.

Qualifications

• GW-03: six months of any work showing ability to perform Forestry Technician duties.
• Option to substitute one year of related firefighting education or training.
• GW-04: six months general experience plus six months specialized experience.
• Eligible for related education in Fire Training or Fire Science.
• Volunteer and other experience may count toward qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Fire suppression/management on an engine, hotshot, helitack or hand crew.
• Duties may include fire prevention, patrol, detection or prescribed burning.
• Meet qualification requirements as defined by FPM/ NWCG standards.
• Provide required documents and meet closing date qualifications.
