Job summary

State of North Carolina - Agriculture & Consumer Services, North Carolina Forest Service, seeks a Forest Fire Equipment Operator (S) in Cedar Mountain, NC to operate heavy equipment including bulldozers and low-boy hauling units for wildfire suppression and forest management.

Two years of heavy equipment operation are required, along with a current NC CDL or CDL learner’s permit with 90 days to obtain the CDL.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with two years of heavy equipment operation experience.
• Must possess a current North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License on hire date, or possess the NC CDL Learner’s Permit and obtain the CDL within 90 days.
• Pre-employment drug screening and a Medical Examiner’s Certification are required.

Responsibilities

• Operate bulldozer, hauling unit, and other heavy equipment for wildland fire suppression and forestation tasks.
• Perform minor equipment repairs and assist district mechanic.
• Respond to emergencies and participate in incident management activities as assigned.
