Job summary

United States Forest Service in Salt Lake City is seeking an entry-level fire management crewmember for assignment at a Geographic Area Coordination Center. The role requires qualifying experience or graduate coursework related to forestry and natural resources, with eligibility for GS-7 based on education and/or experience.

Applicants should be prepared for pre-employment requirements and may provide related volunteer experience in firefighting or resource management.

Qualifications

• One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-6).
• Or one full year of graduate level coursework directly related to the work (forestry, agriculture, range, natural resources, etc.).
• Combination of graduate education and specialized experience acceptable if directly related.

Responsibilities

• Assisting in mobilization and demobilization of resources (personnel, equipment, aircraft).
• Coordinating ground and air transportation and determining resource needs (personnel, equipment, services).
• Assisting in monitoring the daily fire situation and shared resources.
• Assisting in developing office policy and technical guidance (handbooks, guides, operational plans).
