Job summary

Department of Forestry and Fire Management in Flagstaff, AZ seeks a Fire Crew Captain to supervise a 10-20 person inmate hand crew on wildland fire suppression and fuels mitigation. You will maintain NWCG qualifications, manage training, equipment, and crew performance while coordinating with partner agencies.

Qualifications

• NWCG FAL2 certification within one year of hire.
• NWCG CRWB certification within one year of hire.
• Arizona driver’s license and safe driving record.
• Ability to obtain E-Verify clearance.
• Experience directing a hand crew on wildland assignments.

Responsibilities

• Direct a module of a 10- or 20-person Hand Crew.
• Set guidelines and performance expectations for crew members.
• Maintain a safe and healthy work environment for the crew.
• Schedule crew for project assignments and evaluate performance.
• Provide fire training and ensure equipment readiness per policy.
• Maintain crew records and prepare invoices for fires/projects.
• Drive on state business; perform other duties as assigned.
