Job summary

KBR seeks a Wildland Fire Risk Scientist to support USGS research on wildfire risk to buildings and the wildland-urban interface. The role requires advanced GIS, remote sensing, geospatial processing, scripting, and science communications to advance national-scale risk assessments.

Responsibilities include developing models to predict wildfire exposure, leading manuscript preparation, and building datasets of building losses and critical infrastructure affected by fires.

Qualifications

• PhD or advanced degree in ecology, landscape ecology, forestry, fire science or related field.
• 3–5 years of fire ecology experience and knowledge of landscape plant dynamics.
• Experience with Python and R for models, analyses, and visualizations.

Responsibilities

• Advance wildfire exposure and risk research to inform assessments and risk mitigation strategies.
• Develop and publish journal articles on wildfire risk and related topics.
• Develop, maintain, and analyze datasets mapping Wildland Urban Interface and associated assets.
