Job summary

The Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS) is seeking a Research Engineer to advance wildfire science and how mitigation affects homes, businesses, and communities. You will design and execute experimental, field-based, and analytical studies focused on wildfire behavior, ignition paths, materials, and mitigation performance.

Working with IBHS scientists, engineers, and partners, you will translate complex questions into actionable projects, develop progress reports, and

Qualifications

• Master’s degree required in a closely related field.
• Ph.D. preferred for advanced research roles.
• Two or more years in experimental research, lab testing, or field research preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute research projects on wildfire effects on buildings and materials.
• Develop objectives, test plans, and resource needs for experiments.
• Coordinate with internal teams and external partners to deliver projects.
• Conduct field campaigns and post-event investigations when required.
• Prepare technical reports and present findings to stakeholders.

Education

Master’s degree in fire protection engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, structural engineering, materials science, forestry, atmospheric science, or another closely related scientific or engineering field

Ph.D. in a related field preferred
