Job summary

IBHS is seeking a Research Engineer to advance wildfire-related research, evaluating how mitigation strategies affect homes and communities. You will design experiments, coordinate field and laboratory work, and translate results into practical guidance for property owners, insurers, builders, and policymakers.

You will collaborate with scientists, engineers, and external partners to develop robust methodologies, analyze datasets, and communicate findings through reports and publications.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in fire protection engineering or related field.
• Ph.D. in a related field preferred.
• Two+ years of experience in experimental research or fire science preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute wildfire-related research projects.
• Design experiments, assemble test plans, and manage resources.
• Analyze data and translate field observations into actionable findings.
• Collaborate with IBHS teams and external partners.
• Represent IBHS at conferences and in publications.
• Travel to research sites as required.
