Job summary

Institute for Business and Home Safety seeks a Research Engineer to advance wildfire-related research on homes, businesses, and communities. You will design and execute projects, translate research questions into actionable investigations, and collaborate with scientists, laboratories, and external partners to produce science-based guidance for resilience.

Responsibilities include planning experiments, coordinating field campaigns, analyzing data, and communicating findings to diverse audiences.

Qualifications

• Requires Master’s degree in fire protection engineering or related field.
• Ph.D. in fire protection engineering preferred.
• Experience with instrumentation and data acquisition is required.
• Experience with analytical scripting or modeling software is required.
• Experience with experimental design and QA/QC methods is required.
• Ability to travel to research sites and partner locations as needed.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute wildfire research projects examining buildings, materials, and surrounding conditions.
• Develop objectives, test plans, and resource requirements for research projects.
• Coordinate with internal teams and external partners to conduct experiments.
• Prepare technical reports and present findings to stakeholders.
• Represent IBHS at conferences and maintain current knowledge of wildfire science and building practices.
