Job summary

The SOLO Southeast Assistant Manager at Nantahala Outdoor Center (NOC) supports the department manager in running day-to-day operations and guest-facing activities. This role oversees courses, staff, and logistics across the Southeast region.

You will teach courses, manage calendars and paperwork, coordinate lodging and transportation, and partner with marketing and sales to grow revenue while maintaining high guest service standards.

Qualifications

• Minimum education: Bachelor’s, preferred in a related field.
• Wilderness First Responder certification preferred; EMT or higher advanced training encouraged.
• Preferred 3 years of relevant teaching or guiding experience.
• Strong guest service orientation and ability to lead.
• Excellent time management and prioritization skills.
• Poise, tact, diplomacy, professionalism, and accountability.

Responsibilities

• Act as the secondary manager for staff when the SOLO Manager is unavailable.
• Teach courses as needed (including some weekends).
• Act as the secondary onsite source for students when SOLO instructors are not available.
• Assist in department development: instructor training, new program development, teaching methods refinement.
• Coordinate course logistics: classroom space, lodging, vehicles; book resources with other departments.
• Maintain calendars, and check reservation system for changes.
• Process paperwork for SOLO NH, internal NOC Departments, and guest-facing materials.
• Assist with operational, marketing, and sales projects within the department.
• Collaborate with Specialty Sales Representatives to increase revenue opportunities.
• Manage timecards and expense reports.
• Coordinate with Marketing to maintain SOLO Southeast social media sites.
• Work with Manager on complete, effective course scheduling and staffing.
• Produce class rosters and communicate with instructors about upcoming courses.
• Order office, classroom, and Wilderness Medicine/Survival supplies.
• Other duties as assigned.
